Anne Weerapass & K'Ass
Event: Mosaic Music Festival 2008
Band: K'ASS with band leader/keyboardist Mei Sheum, bassist Colin Yong, guitarist Reggie Leo, drummer Floods, backup vocals Rachael Mohan and lead vocals Anne Weerapass
Date: Saturday 15 March 2008
Review: 8:00pm at Nokia Powerhouse: Mixing classic jazz up with a bit of soul, funk and groove, local outfit K'Ass should come with a disclaimer warning people just how infectious their music is. With a set that consisted of tracks by everyone from the Brand New Heavies to Randy Crawford, these guys clearly know how to party!
k'Ass is all about new urban jazz. The band's electrifying performances draw from an eclectic mix of influences as far-ranging as Coltrane, Miles Davis, Incognito, Jamiroquai, Weather Report, old- school funk, hip-hop and acid jazz. Singapore's premiere neu-jazz- funk ensemble crafts its ferociously exciting sound by mixing the club sounds of acid, house and groove with the fine art of improvisational jazz.
